Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose electrolysis over other temporary methods such as laser or waxing?

Unlike other hair removal options, professionally performed electrolysis eliminates unwanted hair, permanently, with unsurpassed results. Moreover, it does so for the largest variety of skin and hair types.

Laser promoters compare laser to electrolysis, however, laser assisted hair removal is only a temporary method. Also, it has not been evaluated for long-term safety of the patient’s skin and health.

Waxing, threading and tweezing are temporary, and ingrown hairs and discoloration may result. Additionally, these temporary removal methods may cause an increase in hair growth activity. Depilatories and Shaving can cause an irritation to the skin while the hair regrows quickly. These methods can require a lifetime of maintenance. Many can appear inexpensive but cost over time is comparable to temporary treatment methods.Your answer here

Is it painful?

The level of pain or discomfort experienced differs from person to person and session to session. Factors include the individual’s overall sensitivity and the area being treated. Lack of sleep, stress, dehydration, and menstrual cycles can increase the amount of discomfort you feel. Generally any discomfort that is felt during the procedure fades quickly. We can discuss ways you can make it more comfortable during our consultation.

How many treatments are required to achieve permanency?

The number of treatments necessary varies with each client. While I can give you a very rough estimate after assessing the area, there is no way to tell how long it will take

Factors such as hair growth cycles, the quantity and thickness of hair presented, previous hair removal methods, heredity, hormone levels, some medications and stress influence how much treatment you will need. As you can see, there are too many factors involved in hair growth to accurately predict how long you will need treatment.

Will I see regrowth after my Electrolysis treatment?

Some regrowth isn't uncommon. In some cases more treatments to each follicle may be necessary to achieve permanency. Hair that is treated and re-grows is thinner and more fragile.

Are there any hairs you can’t treat?

I cannot treat hairs growing from moles without a letter from your dermatologist saying that the mole has been checked and found benign. I also cannot treat any hairs on membranes or internal areas such as nostril hair or hair growing inside the ear.

Do you treat transgender clients?

Electrolysis is for everyone. I run an inclusive practice and work with many transgender clients. I understand the unique issues involved in transgender hair removal, and I have prepared clients for successful gender affirmation surgery.

Is there a minimum or maximum age?

I can perform electrolysis on younger clients with additional parental approval processes. The parent is required to be present.

There is no maximum age.

Are there any downsides to electrolysis?

Electrolysis can be uncomfortable. Some areas, such as under the nose, can be very sensitive.

It's a time-consuming procedure as every hair needs to be treated individually. It requires a time commitment, and if you stop midway, you can regrow hairs that were not fully treated.
